Residence, Provence
Situated in Provence on a hillside with views over protected forest land, the simplicity of the external form of the Maison Davis conceals a surprising complexity of internal arrangement.
Bedrooms are located on the first floor to either side of a sitting room. From this sitting room a staircase leads down to the kitchen and dining room on the ground floor. All of the bedrooms have french windows on to a full length south facing balcony.
The house is designed to be environmentally friendly. South facing roof slopes are fitted with solar panels to generate electricity. Bio-dynamic shading in the form of wisteria grown up and over the full length balcony controls solar gain. In summer the wisteria is in leaf shading the south facing windows and reducing the need for air conditioning. Winter leaf drop allows in low angle sun to reduce the need for heating.
